Ardingly - 'S No Joke

We were looking forward to Ardingly Classic Bike Show on 6th April, first event of the season. Anita and Peter came Saturday to help Tony put the sidecar back on the 741.  Therein lies another story but you’ll have to ask Pete as I don’t tell tales.

Sunday morning was cold but clear and bright, and snow showers had been forecast across the country. As Anita stood outside having a smoke she sagely said - I quote – “We won’t get any snow here in the South”.  So, off we set after a few cups of tea and coffee.  All was well until we drove through Ardingly village and then the blizzard set in!  By the time we had arrived in the showground it was settling well and we began to wonder what month it was and whether we would get back home again.  It was great to see Fred and Penny again and there were Brian (Rat), Scotty, Murray and partner in crime Pikey, looking lively and sporting her red bandanna.   Gradually, more stunned and very cold people trickled in.  We got a call from Mike and Sybil, saying they couldn’t get up Turner Hill (together with a lot of other people on their way to the show), but in typical Mike fashion he wasn’t having any of that ******* ****.  He managed to turn round, took the trailer and Indian Four back home and set out again, this time successfully - now a lot of people would have stayed home in the warm.  We saw Pete Selby who had a stall, Chris Rix arrived and Ray and Carol so we were gradually going from strength to strength!  All things considered it wasn’t a bad turnout but we are hoping that this isn’t an action replay of last summer’s weather pattern!  You remember……….

The good news is that we won Best Club Stand and Ray Chriss won second prize in the Pre 1946 class for his very nice Reading Standard.
I would just add that Pikey also won a rosette, something to do with a traffic cone, but don’t worry Pikey, your secret is safe with us
